The other day I was praying and asking the Lord what he was doing with his people. With so many in transition, waiting for the next step, it can be hard to remain hopeful. So many find themselves in a strange and unsettling holding pattern as though on the verge of movement, but not quite yet. God’s people sense something spiritually is shifting, and yet we wait on Him.
As I listened, the word “nascosto” popped into my head. God rarely speaks to me in Italian…but he certainly got my attention. “Nascosto” is an Italian word for “hidden.”
This morning as I was sitting with the Lord, I asked again, what do you mean by “nascosto?”
And this is the word I heard:
Do not worry about communication, do not worry about the building, do not worry about transitions. I am doing it. You must know, I AM doing it, you simply need to lean into the discomfort and uncertainty that you feel to see that it has never been more certain as to what I am doing. I am bringing new life. I am building my Bride back up from the ashes. It will not look as it has. What has worked will work no longer. Structures and systems must all come down. I am building new. Only those who rely on me for everything will see fruit pour forth.
My people are safe and secure, their feet are on stable ground. I know it is stressful, I see your weary heart – but this really will be an easy and natural shift that will bring you and those who go with you much life. Do not mistake my quiet and hidden work as inaction.
I am doing things quietly and in a hidden way that does not allow the enemy to snatch my good from my hands. I move quietly, but movement will be quite fast – in a snap of a finger.
I am bringing those whose hearts are aligned with me deeper in to the beauty that’s being birthed. I am doing this that no one may say, “look what I have done!”
The world shouts of their greatness – NO! It is I who does great things. Hearts aligned with me, make way for the hidden work that births my greatness.
“Nascosto.” Though hidden today, my glory will soon pour forth.
“Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. This is why I speak to them in parables:
‘Though seeing, they do not see;
though hearing, they do not hear or understand.’”
May we have eyes to see and ears to hear what our Lord is doing. May we lean in to the discomfort and uncertainty to see the reality that we, His people, are firmly in His hands – never more secure.
